WHAT IS SHEA BUTTER?
Shea Butter is fatty substance that comes from the African Shea Tree used mainly for cosmetic purposes, but can be used as an edible source of healthy fatty solubles.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SHEA BUTTER?
Raw shea butter is rich in stearic, oleic acids, vitamin A, and vitamin E. Raw Shea Butter that is cold pressed without any added chemicals, is the only way to get the highest concentration of these elements. Including saturated fats at higher levels then other quality oils like grape seed oil and olive oil. When buying shea butter it is important not to just grab anything off the shelf, because most of it is not processed to optimally preserve it’s richness. Also because it has been passed by the FDA as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS), which literally means it is generally safe to leave on and ingest. Now that depends on if it is 100% Raw Shea Butter, because once a shea butter is mixed with chemicals in certain products it can become no longer safe for either topically left on the skin or hair or ingested.

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH “SHEA BUTTER”
Shea Butter is like this rising star showing up in popular magazines and beauty blogs more then ever in the last couple years. I had a bad experience onCe with shea butter in a crappy lotion that I smeared on my face one summer, biggg big mistake, my skin was a zitty mess for over a week! My mistake was that I blamed it on the shea butter because I could of sworn nothing else in that lotion could of done it, right? But the bigger question was “Was the shea butter actual pure organic shea butter?” or was it some synthetic version of shea butter (a variation of vegetable oil)? I never trusted anything ever again that said ‘shea butter’ on it and steered clear ever since. But was I being ignorant?
MY SECOND EXPERIENCE WITH SHEA BUTTER
I was being ignorant about Shea Butter! The next time I tried a Shea Butter lotion as a moisturizer I was very particular and chose a natural pomade version with less ingredients so that I could distinctly speculate the results. My pick was from “The Other Butter” -100% Natural Hand Made Shea Butter – Pomade, but another really good choice is Cleopatra’s Choice -Raw Shea Butter – 100% Pure, Organic & Unrefined. Anything unrefined is best when it comes to shea butter! It is not stripped of it’s quality fats and lipids that hold the highest amount of nutrient value for skin and hair.
WHY IS SHEA BUTTER GOOD FOR SKIN?
As we know Shea Butter contains fatty lipids that are good for us! Derived from stearic and oleic acid (naturally absorbed and retained by our skin and hair as a moisturizer and healing agent). Even more awesome benefits are being discovered about shea butter like: ‘healing scaly dry skin’ due to eczema and other serious skin conditions , ‘reducing stretch marks (amazing!)’, ‘supporting better skin tone’, ‘providing some spf benefits’, ‘decreasing the sight of wrinkles’, speeding recovery of dark spots and slowing and reducing age spots. You can use unrefined natural Shea Butter for many different skin conditions or just as a daily moisturizer for better skin!
IS SHEA BUTTER GOOD FOR HAIR?
Just how it is good for skin, it benefits hair too! I use it on the ends of my hair when I get our of the shower and it leaves my hair soft (oily and heavy). As long as you don’t use massive amounts throughout your hair, this is the perfect replacement to a chemical based hair product. I always opt for natural hair products over chemical any day! Another thing, I have tried different oils for my hair and I have noticed that when it is all natural and has no smell, sometimes “my” natural smell does not mix well and this is not a complimentary affect; but with the shea butter, I did not notice that problem. What I like to do is spray the least bit of body spray (after shower on wet hair) and then apply the natural shea butter to seal a little fragrance. Possibly not best practices, but that is the disadvantage to a fragrance free all natural moisturizer.
WHERE TO BUY SHEA BUTTER?
There are definitely some great places out their to buy real all natural unrefined and my choices are “The Other Butter” and “Cleopatra’s Choice”. The difference between these two is choices. I would say these two are matched on quality. Whether you are in need of a raw, pomade, or cream the following two sources to buy all-natural unrefined shea butter are qualified to provide you with superb quality and purity.
MY TOP CHOICE OF SHEA BUTTER
The Other Butter has a naturalistic feel about the environment of their packaging, description, and overall look and feel. I noticed less choices then the latter comparison; but sometimes that makes it easier to make a choice. They use all natural pure unrefined ingredients used from the African Shea Tree.
Cleopatra’s Choice has an element of experience and elegant packaging. The culture of their brand is established and out there for everyone to get a close up view of. I quickly noticed that their prices are much more affordable when price/volume is calculated. They also use all natural pure unrefined ingredients used from the African Shea Tree.
